About Ockley

Ockley is an historic village, built on Stane Street, a Roman Road stretching from Chichester to London. Situated between Dorking and Horsham, close to the Sussex/Surrey border, Ockley nestles in the shadows of Leith Hill, the highest point in South east England.

With a strong community, the largest village green in England, and many historic buildings, including a windmill, Ockley is a beautiful place to live surrounded by Countryside and the North Downs.

Interactive Map

After a good few hours of coding, we are pleased to announce our interactive map of Ockley. Using the Google API, we have integrated the map into our site and also started to mark on points of interest. Navigate around the map using click and drag. For information on points of interest, either click on the map markers or on the links above the map.

Articles

We have added a section for articles. This will contain an archive of news, information and points of interest about The Village of Ockley, Mole Valley and Surrey. Where a news item on the home page is expanded by an article, we will link to it.

Photographs

We have a small photograph section. The idea is to have a complete archive of all historic buildings and points of interest, cross referenced with their location on a map and history articles. For now, there is a small collection of photographs we took last year.

Country Watch Text Alert

Surrey Police have set up a new SMS text alert system for all members of our rural community called Country Watch.

The scheme which is free to join, is aimed at Gamekeepers, Farm workers, stables and those involved in the countryside and provides you with alerts sent direct to your mobile phone of any incidents reported to Surrey Police.

As soon as a theft is reported on a farm or someone as been seen poaching, the Police will issue an instant text alert with all the details so you are kept fully informed.

They are really keen for this initiative to succeed and the more signed up, the bigger the impact it will have.

Capel Action Group - Meeting 19th January

Capel Action Group

A new planning appication has been submitted for the Mass burn Waste incinerator at Capel and this needs to be fought against.

The Capel Action Group need your help to try and stop this incinerator, which can spew out emissions over those living within 16 miles due north, north-east and east of the site and affect over 260,000 people from Reigate, Oxted, Horley and Gatwick.

There will be an informal session with the Capel Action Group on how to respond to Surrey Waste Management’s Planning Application for an Incinerator at the Clockhouse site on Saturday 19th January, 9am - 12 noon at the Capel village hall.

Community Speedwatch records their 1,000th vehicle

Recycle it

The Ockley Community Speed Watch Group has recorded their 1000th speeding vehicle.

With a recent blitz recording a vehicle every 1 and a half seconds, Ockley residents are shocked and saddened at the lack of care and respect people show for our village. Cars towing caravans traveling at 55mph, cars doing 70mph and bikes caught speeding at over 95mph.

A recent Police Action Day targeting motorbikes caught over 76, some of which were in such a dangerous state that the were immediately impounded.

The Ockley Traffic Group, in conjunction with the Parish Council and the Speedwatch Action Group has issued a comprehensive Risk Assessment document to members of the Council including:

Mole Valley Freecycle

Recycle it Freecycle is a global network of local groups who give stuff away for free in their village and towns using the web and email. think of it like FreeBay!

Ockley belongs to the Mole Valley Group, which since it's inception in June 2005 has grown steadily and now has just under 3000 members.

When you want to find a new home for something, be it a chair, toys, washing machines or a tumble dryer, just send an email offering it to the group. There will always be someone who is looking for that item.
